Toomey Tourell is pleased to announce a February group exhibition entitled "Red". A partial list of exhibiting artists includes Jerrold Burchman, Eva Bovenzi, Robert Donald, William Edwards, Mark Evans, Roni Feldman, Marilyn Levin, Monika Lin, Jeff Long, Ursula O'Farrell, Maria Park, Mark Paron, Gregg Renfrow, Lyndi Sales, Joe Thurston and Stephanie Weber.

Dates of Red exhibition: February 1st through 28th, 2011

Reception with the artists: Thursday, February 3rd, 5:30-7:30 PM

In this month's exhibition, we are featuring a variety of artistic impressions of the color red. In their varied and creative responses, the artists featured present and interpret this most dynamic and expressive of hues. It can be argued that red has more personal associations that any other color. Recognized as a stimulant, red is inherently exciting and the amount of red utilized is directly related to the level of energy perceived. Red draws attention, and a keen use of it as an accent can immediately focus awareness on a particular element. It has been scientifically ascertained that red can increase blood pressure, respiration, heartbeat and pulse rate, encouraging action and confidence. It has also been known to provide a sense of protection from fears and anxiety.

Some other salient facts about red:

Red is the highest arc of the rainbow.

Red is the first color one loses sight of at twilight.

The longest wavelength of light is red.

In Chinese culture, colors correspond with the five primary elements, the directions and the four seasons. Red is associated with fire, south, and summer. It is also associated there with luck and good fortune.

In Sweden, Falun red (red based on the pigment from the Falun mine) was reserved for the privileged classes.

Bees can't see the color red, but they can see all other bright colors. Red flowers are usually pollinated by birds, butterflies or wind, rather than bees.

Islamic, Hindu and Chinese brides traditionally wear red.

In India, a red mark on the forehead is said to bring good luck.

There are no end of permutations, cultural certainties and historically interesting observations of this most versatile of colors. Please join us in exploring our artist's widely diverse interpretations of this universally fascinating hue. For in the words of Josef Albers, "if one says "Red"- the name of color - and there are fifty people listening, it can be expected that there will be fifty reds in their minds, and one can be sure that all these reds will be very different".

Take Hwy 17 to Santa Cruz.  Go South on Hwy 1 to Park Avenue exit (highway sign will say to "Capitola").
At the end of the freeway exit ramp, turn right onto Park, and head toward the ocean. At the first 4-way stop, make a left turn onto McGregor. Follow McGregor --going past New Brighton Beach signs---about a mile.  Start looking for the "First Alarm" company that will be on your right.  When you see the First Alarm company, turn right onto Estates Drive, and immediately turn left into the Aptos Warehouse Complex parking lot; once inside the driveway, turn right and go towards the back building.   I am in the building in the back---second floor, room #306.  Stairs included without wheelchair accessibility.

Lone Star, a new television series on Fox TV --- premiers on Sept 20, 2010. One of my paintings ("Morning Paper" will be featured in Episode 102 planned to air on October 4...and may also be included briefly in Episode 101 to air Sept. 27.  The intrigue includes actors Jon Voight and Andie MacDowell.

From Wikipedia....

Lone Star is an upcoming American television series for the Fox network. The one-hour drama is set to premiere on September 20, 2010.[1]

Premise

Robert Allen (James Wolk) is a Texas con-man who leads a secret double life. As "Bob," he is married to Cat and living in Houston while working for his oil-tycoon father-in-law. Four hundred miles away, he is "Robert" in a second life with girlfriend Lindsey. As he schemes to take control of the oil business and finds himself torn between the love of two women, he must fight to keep his web of lies from falling apart.[2]

Development and production

In October 2009, Fox made a script-plus-penalty commitment with writer Kyle Killen.[3][4] In mid-January 2010, Fox placed a cast-contingent pilot order under the working title Midland.[5] Marc Webb was signed to direct the pilot episode.[6] In early February, Amy Lippman, Chris Keyser, Kerry Kohansky Roberts, and Paul Weitz were all named as executive producers.[7]

Casting announcements began in mid-February. James Wolk was the first actor cast, in the lead role of Robert Allen.[7] Next to sign on was Eloise Mumford, who will portray his girlfriend Lindsay.[8] In March, Adrianne Palicki and Bryce Johnson were cast siblings Cat and Drew Thatcher. Cat is married to Robert.[9] Jon Voight was cast as Clint Thatcher, and David Keith cast as John Allen, to portray the patriarchs of their respective families.[10] Mark Deklin and Hannah Leigh rounded out the main cast at the end of March.[11] Deklin fills the role of Trammell, a brother to Cat and Drew, while Leigh plays Cat's daughter, Grace.

The pilot was filmed in Dallas, Texas during the second half of March.[12][13] Fox green-lit the project to series in mid-May under the new name Lonestar.[14] At the network's upfront presentation, Fox announced that the series would be part of the Fall 2010 television schedule, airing on Mondays at 9 pm.[2] The series is filmed in Dallas and Fort Worth, Texas.[15] Lippman and Keyser serve as showrunners for the series,[14] which began filming in late July.[16][17][18]

In August 2010, it was reported that Andie MacDowell and Rosa Blasi would join the cast.[19]
